Job Responsibilities
- Overseeing operations and customer service related to ocean freight responsibilities.
- Conducting market analysis and compiling statistics for the country’s ocean freight activities.
- Developing strategies for key vertical markets and supporting strategic growth initiatives.
- Monitoring the performance of trade service contracts.
- Analyzing profit and loss development within the country’s ocean freight products.
- Assisting with carrier negotiations for local contracts.
- Collaborating with sales and marketing teams for major trade lanes alongside regional and global subsidiaries.
- Identifying potential sales opportunities and targets within ocean freight trade.
- Working with the sales team to maintain and implement customer relationships at the country level.
- Contributing to the development of budget guidelines for the country’s ocean freight products.
- Providing operational teams with market insights and rate-level support.
- Ensuring accuracy and efficiency in billing and job costing for ocean freight operations.
- Partnering with overseas teams to develop necessary products and achieve budget targets.
- Optimizing carrier allocation performance.
- Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
- Minimizing risks related to rate coverage by negotiating appropriate buying rates.
- Monitoring market trends and bunker rate fluctuations to forecast pricing.
- Managing operational results, fleet strategies, and container service administration.
- Identifying and developing new business opportunities, focusing on tailored solutions for intralata business.
- Conducting performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Recommending hiring, promotions, and terminations.
- Addressing and resolving personnel issues.
- Providing ongoing coaching and mentoring to staff for skill development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in transportation, ocean freight, international business, or equivalent.
- Over 5 years of experience in airfreight product or global freight management, with a focus on business development.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ocean freight operations.
- Proven experience collaborating with domestic and international partners/carriers.
- Expertise in negotiating complex international freight contracts.
- Demonstrated success in managing P&L for international import/export ocean freight operations.
- In-depth knowledge of industry challenges and trends.
- Experience in project and vendor management.
- Strong marketing and sales capabilities, with a track record of business development.
- Effective communication with international vendors and partners.
- A highly motivated leader skilled in navigating competitive and fast-paced environments.
- Advanced proficiency in English and Portuguese (written and spoken).
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
