About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Lead with hands-on experience in Data Center construction and maintenance to manage and maintain the mechanical infrastructure critical to Data Center operations. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and operational readiness of HVAC, cooling, and mechanical systems throughout the construction, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance phases. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the operation and upkeep of mechanical systems specifically within Data Centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Construction Oversight
- Supervising and coordinating the installation of HVAC, cooling, and mechanical systems during the Data Center construction phase, ensuring all systems meet project requirements and standards.
- Overseeing contractors and ensuring all mechanical installations align with design specifications, project schedules, and quality standards.
- Conducting on-site inspections to verify proper installation and function, addressing any construction or compliance issues.
- Commissioning and Start-Up
- Leading the commissioning of mechanical systems to validate their performance, reliability, and efficiency before going live.
- Conducting operational testing to ensure that HVAC, cooling, and related systems can sustain the required conditions for Data Center operations.
- Developing and implementing operational protocols to transition mechanical systems from the construction phase to ongoing operations.
- Maintenance and Reliability Management
- Developing and executing preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all mechanical systems, including HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, and air distribution systems.
- Leading troubleshooting and diagnostics of mechanical issues, coordinating quick and effective repairs to minimize downtime.
- Ensuring the mechanical systems maintain required redundancy (e.g., N+1, 2N) to uphold continuous operations and meet SLAs.
- System Optimization and Efficiency
- Implementing initiatives to optimize cooling and airflow efficiency, including periodic performance assessments and retrofitting as needed.
- Tracking energy consumption, identifying efficiency improvement opportunities, and implementing best practices to support energy-saving and sustainability targets.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintaining comprehensive records of mechanical systems, including maintenance logs, inspection reports, commissioning documentation, and compliance certifications.
- Reporting regularly on system performance, maintenance activities, and energy consumption metrics, providing insights for continuous improvement.
- Compliance and Safety
- Ensuring all systems adhere to local codes, safety regulations, and industry standards for mechanical installations and maintenance.
- Implementing safety protocols for maintenance personnel and conducting regular safety training and audits.
- Emergency Response and Risk Management
- Developing emergency response plans for mechanical system failures, ensuring quick response protocols are in place to maintain critical operations.
- Evaluating risks to mechanical systems, proactively addressing vulnerabilities in high-risk areas like cooling and power distribution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with specific experience in Data Center construction and maintenance.
- Proven track record in managing mechanical installations, maintenance programs, and system troubleshooting in mission-critical environments.
- Strong understanding of Data Center cooling and HVAC systems, including redundancy requirements (N+1, 2N) and energy-efficient practices.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software and monitoring tools.
