About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer / Lead with a strong background in Data Center construction to oversee the electrical infrastructure required for high-performance and mission-critical operations. This role involves leading the planning, installation, testing, and maintenance of power distribution systems, ensuring consistent, reliable, and efficient power for Data Center operations. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience with Data Center electrical systems such as generators and UPS and must have a track record of managing projects from construction through to operational handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical System Design and Specification
    • Overseeing the design and specification of electrical systems, including power distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), and backup generators.
    • Ensuring designs meet Data Center requirements for uptime, redundancy, and efficiency, with configurations such as N+1, 2N, or other fault-tolerant architectures.
  • Construction Project Management
    • Acting as the lead electrical engineer for Data Center construction projects, working closely with contractors, architects, and project managers to ensure timely and compliant system installations.
    • Conducting on-site inspections to verify installations align with project designs, industry standards, and quality expectations.
  • Commissioning and Testing
    • Leading the commissioning of all electrical systems, ensuring they meet performance and reliability standards before transitioning to operational use.
    • Conducting load testing, fault simulations, and redundancy validation to guarantee the systems can handle maximum loads and power failure scenarios.
  • Maintenance and Reliability Planning
    • Developing maintenance strategies and schedules for all electrical systems, ensuring ongoing reliability and minimal downtime.
    • Implementing predictive maintenance practices to identify and address issues before they impact operations.
  • Compliance and Safety Management
    • Ensuring all electrical systems meet local codes, safety standards, and Data Center industry regulations (such as Uptime Institute standards).
    • Leading the implementation of safety protocols and risk mitigation strategies, conducting training and audits to ensure personnel and operational safety.
  • Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
    • Driving initiatives for improving energy efficiency within the electrical infrastructure, optimizing systems to reduce power consumption and achieve sustainability goals.
    • Evaluating and integrating energy-efficient technologies, including power monitoring systems and alternative energy sources when applicable.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintaining thorough documentation of all electrical system designs, commissioning processes, maintenance records, and compliance certifications.
    • Provide regular reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and energy consumption, and present these to stakeholders.
  • Emergency Response and Risk Mitigation
    • Developing emergency response plans for electrical system failures, including blackout or brownout scenarios, to ensure rapid recovery and minimal impact on data centre operations.
    • Identifying potential risks to power reliability, and implementing strategies to mitigate vulnerabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10-15+ years of experience in electrical engineering with direct experience in Data Center construction and electrical infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems for Data Centers, including high and low-voltage distribution, UPS, generators, and switchgear.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing electrical projects through construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, safety codes, and best practices in Data Center electrical design and operation.
  • Proficiency in electrical design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP) and monitoring systems.
