Job Description:
As an Engineering Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing machined parts and components to meet production and engineering requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, supplier management, the ability to collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams, and working with technical drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identifying, evaluating, and selecting suppliers for machined parts and components.
- Ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement in alignment with engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing and favourable agreements.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability and quality.
- Monitoring supplier performance and resolving issues related to delivery, quality, or pricing.
- Conducting supplier audits to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Working closely with engineering and design teams to understand technical requirements and specifications for machined components.
- Providing input on manufacturability, cost implications, and alternatives during design phases.
- Managing inventory levels and ensuring the availability of critical components to avoid production delays.
- Tracking procurement budgets and maintaining cost control measures.
- Identifying cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Maintaining accurate records of procurement activities, supplier contracts, and inventory data.
- Ensuring procurement processes comply with company policies and relevant regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Over 2 years of experience in a Purchasing Engineer role within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in purchasing direct materials such as metal, stainless steel (machining, die casting), aluminium, rubber, electronics, spring, fasteners, etc.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Logical thinking to understand technical details, manufacturing processes, and limitations.
